Overview

The Proposal

On June 14, 2004, voters in the Ann Arbor Public School District will be asked to approve two ballot questions for improvements to district facilities.
The two questions are:

  • A $205,465,000 bond for projects such as a new high school, classroom additions, technology upgrades and other projects across all district facilities.
  • A 1.0 mil sinking fund, which is estimated to generate about $35 million over a 5-year period, for smaller projects throughout the district.

Sinking Fund Program

Mechanical and Electrical upgrades for Ann Arborâs 21 elementary schools, 5 middle schools and 5 high schools.

Mechanical upgrades improve student comfort through appropriate heating, cooling and air quality. Upgrades include:

  • New boilers
  • New classroom ventilators
  • Replacing rooftop air handling units
  • Replacing plumbing fixtures
  • Air conditioning elementary school media centers and computer labs

Electrical upgrades support technology objectives and improve classroom environments. These include:

  • Replacing outdated electrical equipment
  • Installing security and fire alarm systems
  • Replacing interior lighting in classrooms, as needed.
