Slauson Middle School

Built 1937

Goal:

  • To modernize various features of the building and update instructional technology

Key Elements of the Plan:

  • Improve accessibility in the building
  • Install new classroom, corridor and stair lighting
  • Replace carpet/tile in classrooms, offices, Media Center, and band and choir rooms
  • Replace corridor lockers
  • Improvements for auditorium
  • Remodel recreation room to expand cafeteria
  • Remodel kitchen
  • Replace gym bleachers
  • Remodel boysÎ and girlsâ locker rooms
  • Install wireless infrastructure for technology
  • Upgrade security system and replace fire alarm system
  • Upgrade telephone system and install cable television as needed
  • Replace various mechanical equipment
  • Improve landscaping
  • Purchase new Media Center, classroom, and office furnishings
  • Purchase food service equipment

Features and Benefits:

  • Wireless infrastructure, telephones, and cable TV will improve the technological capabilities for all curriculum offerings
  • Expanding cafeteria to create a more open, inviting space
  • Partial lighting, flooring, ceiling and furnishings to enhance classroom environment
  • ADA improvement to increase accessibility
  • Improvements to gym/pool and support spaces to enhance physical education and athletics
  • Mechanical and electrical upgrades to maintain facilities
  • Site work and landscaping to improve curb appeal

  • $6,097,000
